The Dayak Bidayuh Traditional House, Unique and Full of Meaning!

Our journey at this time is heading to the northern part of the island of Borneo, namely to Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan, precisely to the hamlet of Jagoi Babang, Jagoi Babang District which is directly adjacent to Malaysia. In Jagoi Babang Hamlet, there is one of the Dayak tribes, namely the Bidayuh Dayak Tribe.

The Bidayuh Dayak tribe is one of the seven major Dayak tribes in Kalimantan, namely Murut, Banuaku, Ngaju, Iban, Kayan, Ma'anyan and Bidayuh, which most of the population covers the Sanggau, Bengkayang regencies, and partly spreads in the Sekadau, Ketapang and Sambas area.

The majority of the Dayak Bidayuh tribes are domiciled in Sanggau District, including the Districts of Kapuas, Parindu, Jangkang, Bonti, Kembayan, Beduai, Sekayam, Entikong and Bengkayang Districts. In Sarawak, the Bidayuh are concentrated in the villages of Samarahan and Kuching.

However, in this article, we will not delve deeper into the history of the Biadyuh Dayak tribe. Because in this article we will review the Bidayuh Dayak Traditional House called "Baluk". Baluk is the traditional house of the Bidayuh Dayak tribe which is very different in shape from the traditional houses of other Dayak tribes, especially those in West Kalimantan and generally the Dayak tribes on the island of Borneo.

This traditionally built house has long been used as a place to celebrate the big days of the Dayak Bidayuh tribe, such as gadgets or other harvest festivals, so this traditional house area is not inhabited, but don't be surprised if there is a festival it will be very crowded. Its distinctive shape is circular, conical and shaped like a traditional house on stilts made of wood and boards, making the traditional house or traditional village the most popular or favorite version of the Ministry of Tourism, API alias Anugrah Pesona Indonesia several time ago.

It has a diameter of approximately 10 meters with a height of approximately 12 meters and is supported by about 20 wooden poles and several other supports and a pole is used as a ladder that resembles a catwalk. This height describes the position or place of Kamang Triyuh that must be respected.

It has a conical roof or Payukng Samai roof which means protecting the whole community with four windows facing the four cardinal directions.

The Baluk house for the Bidayuh Dayak tribe, is a place for carrying out Nyobeng traditional ceremonies, and also a place for storing human skulls which are relics of their ancestors or ancestors. This place is also usually used to solve customary problems, if something happens in the community.

That's a bit of an explanation about the Bidayuh Dayak Traditional House, which is called the "Baluk Traditional House".

Lack of knowledge about Nusantara Culture, as well as the lack of references that we get, we apologize if there are errors in the explanation in this article. Please clarify by commenting below, if there is anything that needs to be added or reduced explanation.
